Small beginnings. Maximum cells.

MaxCell® is StemCyte's premium processing method. It tempers less with the cord blood and preserves four times the volume of a standard unit.

The difference

A better way to preserve.

Most cord blood banks reduce a unit to a concentrate, stripping out cells in the process. MaxCell® is StemCyte's proprietary processing method — engineered to preserve a higher recovery of total nucleated cells, keeping more of the cord blood that was there at birth.

StandardCell
0 mL
Concentrated unit. Cells lost in processing.
MaxCell®

Tempers less with the cord blood. More total nucleated cells preserved.

Why this matters.

More cells, better odds

Total nucleated cell (TNC) count is a key predictor of engraftment success. Research has shown that higher TNC doses are associated with faster engraftment and better survival outcomes in cord blood transplants. MaxCell® processing preserves more TNCs than standard red blood cell depletion methods.

More options, later

A larger preserved unit gives future physicians flexibility. Some emerging cord blood therapies benefit from having a higher cell count or volume than a concentrated 25mL unit can provide. Preserving closer to the full 100mL of the original sample keeps more treatment pathways available — including applications not yet available.

Frequently asked questions

MaxCell® is offered as a premium processing option on StemCyte storage plans. Final pricing depends on the plan you choose — see our Plans & Pricing page for details.
Plasma depletion is the technical category. MaxCell® is StemCyte's proprietary implementation of it. The point isn't the name — it's that MaxCell® tempers less with the cord blood, preserving more total nucleated cells for a higher potential transplant dose.
Standard processing concentrates a cord blood unit into a smaller storage volume, but cells are lost in the process. MaxCell® prioritizes cell preservation over volume reduction — you get a larger stored unit, with more of the original cord blood intact.
Yes. MaxCell®-processed cord blood units have been used in transplants worldwide.
